Description: View from the south side of the hilltop earthworks at the Fort Hill nature preserve in Highland County, Ohio, April 1941. The hilltop earthworks were constructed by the pre-historic Hopewell people, 100 B.C.-A.D. 500. Fort Hill became a state memorial in 1932 when 330 acres were purchased. Between 1937 and 1953 more acreage was added until the site was 1,200 acres. The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed park structures in the 1930s and the museum opened in 1968. Description: Disk-shaped hammer is made of mottled gray and olive igneous rock. It has a shallow groove about 19 mm in width that runs around 3/4 of the diameter. It is flattened on each end, and there is a shallow indentation in the center of each end. Item was found in Highland County, Ohio. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: Spool-shaped tube of sandstone is wider at the ends and tapers to the middle. There is small hole drilled through the center of the spool from end to end. On each end there are two incised lines that form circles near the edge. There are four small inscribed circles between the lines and the hole. On the exterior surface there is a angular, abstract design of incised parallel lines. The spool is made of sandstone that is pale yellow, very dark gray and pale brown in color. There are some chips missing from each end and on the body. Item was found in Highland County, Ohio. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: Long, narrow Lanceolate projectile point has a beveled blade that tapers slightly to the base, which is straight with rounded corners. The edges of the lower third of the blade and base are ground smooth. It is made of flint that is light brownish gray and light olive brown in color. Item was found in Highland County, Ohio.
